Connect Gmail or Google Workspace.

Noctiv signs in to your mailbox with an App Password: a separate 16-character password you create for Noctiv alone and can revoke at any time. It takes about two minutes.

Gmail

  1. Open myaccount.google.com and go to Security.
  2. Turn on 2-Step Verification if it is off. Google only offers App Passwords when it is on.
  3. Open myaccount.google.com/apppasswords.
  4. Enter the name "Noctiv" and choose Create.
  5. Copy the 16-character password and paste it into Noctiv, under Settings → Mailboxes (or the onboarding step). Spaces don't matter.

Google Workspace (your own domain)

  1. Your Workspace admin must allow App Passwords for your account. If the App Passwords page says the setting isn't available, ask your admin.
  2. Turn on 2-Step Verification for your account.
  3. Open myaccount.google.com/apppasswords and create one named "Noctiv".
  4. Copy the 16-character password and paste it into Noctiv.

What Noctiv does with it

Noctiv tests the connection (reading with IMAP and sending with SMTP) before anything is saved. The password is stored encrypted; only the background service that reads your mailbox can decrypt it. Noctiv reads new messages without marking them as read, and replies go out from your own address, so they appear in your Sent folder.

To disconnect Noctiv, delete the App Password in your Google Account. Your normal password is never needed and never changes.
